As you obviously know, an editor is one who separates the wheat from the chaff and prints the chaff (Adlai Stevenson 1966)
What you probably don’t know is that the soi-disant ignorant observer who, in the last issue of the Journal (pp. 30–32) wrote of himself, “Whoever reads the INSJ knows more than I do,” wanted to make a splash like Basho’s frog in the ancient pool of knowledge about netsuke, but he did not make a decent ripple.
